Now this is a bit different this is a request where again I have no idea who this band are but straight away when reading on the internet I recognised Peter Case, I had one of his solo albums way back in the day, Wig (good record if I remember correctly, I need to listen to it again) who was also before his stellar solo career the lead singer of The Plimsouls, we got there in the end.

The Plimsouls are seemingly best known for a couple of their songs appearing in a Nick Cage film called Valley Girl which they also appear in (I’ve never heard of it I am afraid). The two songs are A Million Miles Away, which is their best track on the record, from the start a solid drum beat and a nice jangly guitar before a driving chorus and the title track powers along and I enjoy the wah-wah guitar that takes us out.

This is a record for people who like their guitars, remember Diesel Park West from the reviews a wee while backs well The Plimsouls could be their American brothers.

I have always been a sucker for a harmonica and there is a belter on Oldest Story in the World and the closing instrumental Hobo and the organ throughout Lie, Beg, Borrow and Steal is a delight.

The band stomp along, strong melodies are throughout each song, My Life Ain’t Easy does not let up for a minute and Inch by Inch is more restrained and for me is Case’s beat vocal on the record.

There is no classic song on this record but also you would not say any of the twelve tracks do not have something, no filler just well-played guitar rock.

A good way to spend half an hour.

6.5/10

Fair play to Gary Numan who has been around making music for nearly fifty years. Spectacular early success, an early retirement that he regretted and falling record sales. He slowly rebuilt his career

A trio who was huge in the 90’s. I know everyone was hoping for a review of Hanson and their megahit MMMBop but that’s for another time so I am afraid you are all getting another huge 90’s trio, Nirva
