The Chart Show ran on STV from 86 to 98 and would do a specialist chart. The Indie Chart had at Number One The Trumpton Riots by Half Man Half Biscuit, it was not on this original album but is on the reissue on Apple Music. It’s everything I love in a song, fast, raw, great vocals, and a raucous chorus,

Back in the DHSS appeared in 1985 and the band are still going strong but on their own terms with a few dates now and then and an album every few years. They famously refused to play The Tube as Tranmere were playing that night.

Some of the song titles have dated and only people of my age will know who Bob Todd, Nerys Hughes and Len Ganley are but who wouldn’t want to listen to a song with the title Fuckin’ Ell it’s Fred Titmus?

Time Flies By comes from kids tv programme Chigley with alternative words from lead singer Nigel Blackwell. This is a man who knows how to write a lyric. Very few can make you laugh in their lyrics, the man is a genius.

They should be bigger, but I think they are happy exactly where they are.

8/10

GIVE IT A STREAM The Trumpton Riots (please note the songs are not in the right order on Apple and the song called Albert Hammond Bootleg is Trumpton Riots)
